As we approach the end of spring, more opportunities for jobs and internships are appearing for the communications, media, and public relations fields, and now is the time to start applying to secure a position. Due to COVID-19, many companies have opted for remote work, which opens a lot of possible companies you can work with from the comfort of your home. Big-name companies like WarnerMedia, Discovery, HBO, and CBS have presented multiple internships for those focusing on communications and marketing.
Disney has internships available up until the fall of 2021, which will give you the chance to expand your PR experience and apply your learned knowledge from RSO’s and courses. Many of the qualifications for these internships require that you have excellent research skills, able to work with basic software programs, a passion for PR, and an open schedule. Luckily, many of the internships are paid, but there are also positions that all students to work for course credits, which is also a great opportunity!
ThredUp, a New York company that upcycles second-hand clothes, has a marketing communications internship available. For 12 weeks out of this upcoming summer, you will be able to work with a team of people, develop projects for ThredUp, and expand your knowledge of the communications field.
Remember playing with LEGOS? They are giving students the chance to assist with marketing efforts such as event planning, social media, and collaborations with their AMS marketing intern position. Rising juniors and seniors are eligible for the position this summer!
For soon-to-be graduates looking for a full-time position, check out sites like LinkedIn, Indeed, and Handshake through SIU. Remember not to limit yourself, there are many different positions where you will be able to apply skills you have learned. Known, a marketing firm, is looking to hire a communications coordinator in one of their offices in New York, Seattle, and Boston to name a few. The New York Jets are also hiring a seasonal communications assistant position for those interested in football and looking to start working a little after graduating!
When searching for jobs and internships, there is one thing you should keep in mind; do not limit yourself. Working with a well-known company may be a great opportunity but remember that there are a variety of companies that could use your skills so do not restrain yourself from seeking a position with a company you are not too familiar with.
