Communication alumni excel post SIU

When you hear someone talk about communications, they may say something along the lines of “Everyone has to communicate” or “It works in any field”. So, what does that look like exactly, and what all can I actually do after I graduate? It’s easy to talk the talk, but can they walk the walk? These three may offer up an idea of just how successful one can be when they put their money where their mouth is.

Graduated Summa Cum Laude from Southern Illinois University in 2002, she would go on to use her talents to help others across the nation. Taking her place in her family’s corporation where she is the president of the Follett Educational Foundation and the Marketing Manager for Follett International. Having spent over a decade in the journalistic world Britten was described as a natural communicator she is now the head of public relations, internal communications, their social media, and video as the PR & Communications Manager for Follett School Solutions.

Double majoring and ending her tenure as editor-in-chief of The Daily Egyptian. Pam was always driven towards success. Following graduation in 1979 she worked for The Daily Herald, a chain of daily newspapers. Until she decided to launch a career into health care public relations all while earning a Master of Science degree in marketing communications. After a long and successful career in PR it eventually culminated into her becoming the vice president of global pharmaceutical communications at Johnson & Johnson. Today she is the “chief storyteller” for NeighborWorks America, DC-based nonprofit whose goal is to create affordable housing and healthy communities for all U.S. residents.

Tom BlimBeing a creative thinker and accomplished strategist, SIU was the perfect place for Tom Blim to develop as a creative. After graduating in 1984 Tim saw the writing on the wall when it came to traditional communication with the coming of the digital age. As a partner of SJR he leads strategic planning as well as creative efforts focused on the daily creation digital content that sets the firm apart. Having work with clients like GE, Target, Coca-Cola, The Home Depot, Xerox, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and the cable and motion picture associations. Tom has set up strategies and developed content platforms focused on sharing knowledge and creating connections between brands and key targets, business people, to political influencers to consumers.
